Resolution Smezolution

When I was a kid, I was all about making this grand list of things to accomplish.  "Set goals," they'd say. "It's rewarding when you accomplish them," they'd say.  In my younger years, it was easy to read 50 books, be nice to my brother for 5 days in a row, etc., and so on.  In high school and college, well.....we all know that by the end of January you were back to eating sugar and cookies and cakes, the gym had become dull, salad had turned into a four letter word, and, well...."I was out with friends having a beer so I had just one little cigarette."  Poof, your list is up in smoke! *Disclaimer:  I did finally kick that habit, but it took a LONG time.

I really don't make much of a list anymore.  My main goals stay at work where they belong. There, I'm able to keep track of them and attain them within the 12 month period, as required.

This year, I do have a couple of goals, though.

First one, already got it, too!  Put decorations up before Hubs birthday in mid-January.  I actually put them away yesterday. I usually leave them up until the epiphany, but I just couldn't stand the thought of having that task hanging over my head for the next week or so.
These are the snowmen Liz gave me last year.  LOVE them!

Second one is a training goal.  I've just signed up for my first 10K, The Cooper River Bridge Run in April.  I'm nervous because honestly, I can't run a complete 5K (that's running the entire time).  I have to take "little breaks" when I'm running and walk a bit.  The 3.1 miles is not the hard part.  I can walk that easy.  It's running the entire time that baffles my body.  I'm trying to build my stamina right now and once I feel that I  have increased the duration of running, I can begin to work on my pace.  I'm putting this out in the world, so I can be held accountable for my training.  I've used my gym membership more in the last month than I have since I joined in July.  So far, so good!  As for my We Run HP group....I'll see you on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays as long as someone will keep my pace.  My main "trainer" is headed back to China for work.  She'll have to harass me via Facebook.  If I'm not running downtown, I will be running the hills in the neighborhood at least three times a week.  All I can say is that I'm glad we're past the shortest day of the year....bring on daylight!!
Here we are at Katie's 40th birthday.  What a good time we had!
Another goal I'd like to attain is to stay in touch with my high school buds that I miss so much.  The last time we all got together was 2 1/2 years ago.  We need to get together again....and soon!  Life is short and we need to spend some time together.  Rono and Mary--you are also REQUIRED to be there!

This leads me to a big THANK YOU to all my friends and family who send Christmas cards year after year.  I have not had "card money" in the budget for several years, but I appreciate the thought that you still send us one to let us know how you are and what your family has been up to in the last year.  It's fun to see your kids grow up and I really appreciate it.

Everyone be safe tonight!  Ring in the new year with love in your heart and make 2013 the best year ever!

Happy New Year's Eve!
xoxo,
Laurie

Love this list! I applaud you for the running goal--I'm the same with you..I have trouble running for long periods and honestly am not sure if I could go a whole mile right now without some walk breaks!
