My Dream Job

I love my job.  I really do.  It's fun, the people I work with are fun, and frankly, I'm good at customer service.  Seriously.  Ten years ago, heck five years ago, I would never have thought that I would say that I was good at customer service.  Now, I've owned my own business and I will be the first to say that service was okay.  It wasn't legendary.  I was more focused on the creative aspect of the business and the service might suffer.  I was a one-woman show, what can I say?  Working for Ralph has taught me what it means to offer legendary service and now that I know....I expect it from everyone I do business with as well.

My dream job, I  believe, would be a Lilly Pulitzer print designer.  I mean, how fun would that be?  Doodle all day?  Then paint your designs?  Maybe brainstorm with other designers for ideas.  Trips to Palm Beach for inspiration?  I could most definitely use a trip to Palm Beach.  I'm not completely Lilly obsessed, but I do love the bright colors and the basics of a Shift dress.   It would be like summer time all the time!
This is Hubs and me YEARS ago at Debordieu.
I've got one of my favorite Lilly prints on here.
As you may know by now, I gave up Facebook for Lent.  I've been spending an enormous amount of time on Pinterest.  I've always said you can give up one habit, but you'll form another.  That is exactly what I've done with Pinterest and it's where the ball got rolling for this post.  The Print Designers pin what's called a 5x5 on their Board called Lilly 5x5.  I'm not sure how often they do it, but it seems fairly often.  I'm sure it would have to be.  They post about holidays and whatever inspires them.  You can check out the board, HERE.

I found other blogs and such that have discussed the LP design process.  There's even a video on the Lilly site where you can watch a designer paint a print and then see it made up as a dress.  It's HERE, in case you've never seen it.  You have love the company knows they have Dream Jobs.  You can see in the studio that they are all having fun.

I have long been creatively inspired by illustration artists, yet I've never quite gotten the hang of it.  Since my birthday is next week, I thought I'd give it a try today.  I know....there are a LOT of candles missing.
I think it turned out quite well using markers.  I sketched first and that was very helpful.  I tried another design on the next page just pen to paper and it was, well....  Scary.  I hope to dig out my water colors and try some more at creating prints.  My goal this spring is to be more actively creative with my art.  My sisters and mother have all vowed to spend at least one day a week painting, so we'll see what happens when we all begin to create together.

What's your dream job?

Happy Tuesday!
xoxo,
Laurie
