In Like a Lion

I can't believe we're already a few days into March.  My BFF's and I celebrated our 43rd birthdays this weekend in grand style with an out of town escape to a winter wonderland.  There was good food, good spirits, lots of dancing, and even some kitchen Karaoke.  Today we all felt much older than 43 and I'll just leave it at that for details.  Oh, and the pictures? Sure...here's one.
This week, I am starting the final push in my somewhat misguided training for the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K in April.  Misguided meaning that I slacked off in January and I'm paying for it now.  We will be expanding our route this week from a 5K out a little bit each week until we leave for the race.  My sister (and training partner) informed me that she did our route in 28 minutes on Saturday (while I was out of town doing anything but training).  B&*#H!  That's the same pace of some of my SERIOUS runner friends.  I know she's a natural born athlete.  I know she's 7 years younger than me.  What I need to know now is:  will she be standing at the finish line waiting on me (with a stretcher) when I huff and puff my way through downtown Charleston praying for the finish line to be in sight??  Maybe it's all downhill from the pinnacle of the bridge?  I know she'll be there and so will my other running friends...unless they spot the beer tent.  It really doesn't matter because Charleston is going to be F-U-N!  First girls trip/race far enough out of town that we're going for the weekend.  I swear if it's warm enough I will be on the beach at Isle of Palms recuperating that afternoon.  That is if someone will carry me.  I know I'll have plenty of endorphins keeping me going.
The other things I'm starting this week are the Plank Challenge and the Push Up Challenge.  I figure two birds with one stone on this one.  Kind of a "while you're down there why don't you" just push up?
Anyone on Pinterest can find these, but I'll make it easy.  I'm late starting this month, but believe it or not, I started this morning when I got up and did my stretches. No time like the present right?  I didn't have the instructions with me, so I just counted to 60.  I think that takes me to day 7 or it means that I am stronger than I think I am.  Ha--even I have to laugh at that thought.
The picture takes you to the Pin, but the pin takes you HERE.
I also found the Push Up Challenge on Pinterest.  I started thinking if I did all the workouts I pin it might actually counter balance the recipes I AM making all the time.

I love this cartoon.  It's been one of my favorites for a while and I honestly have no idea where it originated (sorry to the person who owns this, but know that I love it!  The day after you do a push up workout and you're sore, this will put a smile on your face.  Usually my arms are so sore I can only lift them at the elbows giving me a T-Rex effect and thus:
The picture takes you to the Pin, but the pin takes you to sign into Tumblr with no real place.
I've been working on my eating habits this past week, too. Not perfection, but at least tracking how many calories I'm consuming, challenging myself to eat a salad at least once a day (all but Saturday and Sunday in the last week).  Something about turning 43 gave me this "now or never" attitude about getting healthy and so far, so good.

Who's up for the challenge?  Who's done the challenge?

I'm linking up with Leeann at Join the Gossip today.  Won't you join us?

Happy Monday, y'all!
xoxo,
Laurie

hahah @ "Oh, and the pictures? Here's one."

Good work on your run plans. I am not a runner, but I am working on my fitness in non running ways.

I just started doing exercise crap I've been pinning on pinterest for over a year like two weeks ago. There's lots of stuff to do when you're sitting around and watching TV.

Good luck with your 10K race. You can do it!!! I'm trying to eat better at least during the week. I find that if I write down what I eat everyday, it helps me stay on track.

Best,
